So, what well-known location, feature or landmark on Earth are we looking at today? Check back tomorrow when we will reveal the answer and see if you guessed right! Day 9 answer: The image is a wrapped differential interferogram showing contours of surface deformation associated with the Ridgecrest earthquakes that occurred in California on July 4th and 5th 2019. It was derived through interferometric processing of a pre- and post-event Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image acquired by the Sentinel-1 satellite mission. "InSAR" is a very powerful remote sensing processing technology capable of providing a unique insight into the location, extent, magnitude and temporal evolution of surface deformation.
